Russia destroy largest ice arena Hockey Club in Eastern Ukraine 

On the night of 2 January 2023, the Russian Federation did another missile attack on Ukraine,   missile was aimed to destroying the iconic Lʹodova Arena “Altair” home of the eight-time Ukraine hockey champions “Donbass” Hockey Club. Three people were injured as a result of the attack as reported by Oleksandra Pakhomova, the deputy head of the Druzhkivka city military administration.

Oleksandra Pakhomova added: “It has been the home ground of the hockey club “Donbas” since 2014. Lʹodova Arena in Druzhkivka was the base for the largest children’s and youth sports school in hockey and figure skating that worked in Ukraine. The arena hosted championships of Ukraine, international competitions, and mass cultural events. It was the favorite place of recreation for the citizens and guests of Druzhkivka.”

The head of Donetsk regional military administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko, believed that in Druzhkivka, not only “Altair” but also a bus station, a church, a residential building and outhouses were damaged.

This is the 3rd home that the Donetsk club has lost due to the Russian inhabitants – the Palace of Sports “Druzhba” in Donetsk, the Mariupol Ice Center, and now “Altair” – the official statement of “Donbas” reads.
