For the first time in the history of cricket Pakistan opened the bowling attack with two spin overs in a row on the opening day of Final exam against England in Karachi on Saturday.

The home side bowled their first two over-spinners in the match with Abrar Ahmed and Nauman Ali.

Earlier, England spinners Jack Leach and Rehan Ahmed shared six wickets between them on Saturday as Pakistan were bowled out for 304 on the first day of the third and final Test in Karachi.

At the National Bank Cricket Arena (National Stadium), Leach took 4-140 while young Ahmed took 2-89 after Pakistan won the toss and batted on a slow spinner.

Captain Babar Azam scored 78 runs and Agha Salman scored 56 runs on behalf of Pakistan.

In reply, England lost Zac Crowley for a wicket in the first over of the innings and Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed struck. The visitors were 7-1 at stumps and trailing by 297 runs.

On their first Test tour of Pakistan since 2005, England won the first match in Rawalpindi by 74 runs and Multan by 26 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

The tourists made two changes from the last Test, replacing James Anderson and Will Jacks with wicketkeepers Ben Fowkes and Rehan Ahmed.

Rehan, aged 18 years and 126 days, became the youngest player to debut for England, beating Brian Close’s record of 18 years and 149 days set in 1949.

Senior Pakistan batsman Azhar Ali, who announced on Friday that the Karachi Test will be his last, is one of four changes to the home side.

Shaan Masood, Muhammad Wasim Jr and Nouman Ali have also come into the field while Imamul Haq (injured), Muhammad Nawaz, Zahid Mehmood and Muhammad Ali have been left out. 21-year-old Wasim is playing his first Test.
