Deschamps insists France win over Morocco ‘wasn’t an easy victory’

France Head coach Didier Deschamps insists Wednesday’s 2-0 World Cup semi-final win over Morocco was not an “easy victory”.

Goals from Theo Hernandez and Randal Kolo Muani sent Les Bleus into the World Cup final with a win. Hernandez settled any nerves with a fifth-minute opener.

The world champions actually lost possession 62-38 per cent, while Morocco also had the better passing accuracy 575-363.

“It was not an easy victory, we showed our quality, experience and team spirit,” Deschamps told reporters.

“We had to dig deep even in the tough moments of the match. As a coach I am very proud and happy for my players.

“I don’t really think about myself, but I can appreciate the fact that we’ve had this success. As far as my achievements, I’m not the most important thing here.

“The team is more important than me. We have a chance to defend our title in the final, so it’s already a big achievement.

“But we are doing everything we can to make sure that we, as a team and for our nation, are even happier on Sunday.”

France’s progress means they can become the first back-to-back world champions since Brazil achieved the feat in 1958 and 1962.

Les Bleus have reached their fourth decider in the last seven World Cups since breaking their duck on home soil in 1998.

“There is emotion, there is pride,” said Deschamps.

“Again, it was an important step. There’s still one more to go. We’ve been with the players for a month, it’s never been easy, but so far it’s been a pleasure.
